Jesus is our high priest, right?
Students might accept that statement at face value, but do they know what it means and why it's so important? This 2-week sermon series unpacks Hebrews 4:14-5:10 in a way that will help them know what it means and why it's so important to have Jesus as our high priest.
Message 1: "The High Priest of the Church of the Graceful Truth" (preview and download the .doc file)
What do you do when you sin after you've already been forgiven of your sins?
The writer of Hebrews knows that some people in the congregation are tempted to drift back into solidarity with the Jewish sacrificial system in order to obtain the tangible assurance of forgiveness. But that's not the answer. This message explains that historical situation and how Jesus sympathizes with our weaknesses as our advocate, not our accuser.
Message 2: "Making a Case for Christ" (preview and download the .doc file)
Calling Jesus a high priest would undoubtedly have caused some questions to come back on the person who made such a claim. This message asks those questions, moves through the writer's rationale behind the claim, and looks at the implications that it has for our lives.
NOTE: As always, my hope is not that you would say what I say, but that your own thinking and teaching are informed and improved by this resource.
